Flautist, Mindy Phomvisay will be joined by Cindy Lin, pianist for the next Arts Concert on Saturday January 26, 2013 at 7:00 p. m. at Hope United Methodist Church, 2203 S. 3rd Ave, in Marshalltown.
Mindy Phomvisay is honored to be playing for the Hope concert series! She is a newer member to Marshalltown, as her husband Aiddy is in his second year as Principal of Marshalltown High School. They have two children, Elijah and Emma who are 10 and 8.
Phomvisay graduated from Iowa State University with a degree in Music Education, with flute and voice her primary instruments. Mindy teaches elementary music at GMG Elementary and is the Director of Music at First Baptist Church of Ames. She directed one of the Ames Children’s Choirs for five years, has given private flute lessons and has taught music in Ankeny, Ames, Perry and West Des Moines. Mindy is a member of Tuesday Musical, and directs a Summer Music Camp each year at FBC Ames.
Ms. Cindy Lin is currently on the Piano Faculty at Ellsworth Community College at Iowa Falls, Iowa. She specializes on French music and American contemporary music. Ms. Lin has travelled extensively and frequently performed solo and chamber recitals in Washington D.C., Maryland, Boston, New Jersey and Greater Los Angeles area. Her programs include music composed by Bach, Bartok, Beethoven, Chopin, Debussy, Dello Joio, Mendelssohn, Mozart, Rachmaninoff, Ravel, Schubert, Schumann, and other classic and contemporary musicians. Her upcoming concert tour, “Better Music for Better Iowa”, intends to promote the educational benefits of classical music.
Ms. Lin is currently a candidate for Doctor of Musical Arts in Piano Performance at the University of Maryland, School of Music. She also holds a Bachelor's degree in Piano Performance from University of California, Irvine and a Master's degree in Piano Performance from the Boston Conservatory
The Second Saturday Arts Festival is sponsored by Hope UM Church. Admission is free. Refreshments will be served following the program. A donation basket will be available with proceeds focused toward the newly installed pipe organ.
